Squale began in 1959 when the von Büren family's Swiss case making business, active since 1946, registered the shark logo brand to sell its professional dive cases as finished watches. Through the 1960s and 1970s Squale was the hidden hand of dive watchmaking: its cases, engineered for depths of 50 and 101 atmospheres, housed divers sold by Blancpain, Doxa, and many others, while Squale branded pieces served military and professional divers including Italian units.
The 50 Atmos and 101 Atmos cases, with their distinctive crown at 4 o'clock and domed crystals, became cult objects among dive watch historians. After quiet decades, the brand revived in the 2010s under Italian Swiss stewardship, reissuing the classic cases with Sellita movements and vintage faithful details, riding the heritage diver boom at accessible prices.
Squale's authenticity is structural: it was the engineering supplier, not a marketing invention, and its modern watches reuse genuinely historic case designs. The 1521 (50 Atmos) and 2002 (101 Atmos) lines anchor the catalog, joined by the Sub-39 slim diver and Master professional models.
Prices run roughly 800 to 2,500 dollars.
| Collection | Identity | Highlights |

Squale is dive watchmaking's honest craftsman: the case engineer whose work others branded, now selling its own history at fair prices. The 1521 is the definitive buy, a genuine 1960s professional design in modern production. For heritage diver credibility per dollar, few names compete.
