Michel Parmigiani made his name from 1976 as one of the great restorers of historical timepieces, entrusted with the automata and clocks of the Sandoz collection. The Sandoz Family Foundation funded the creation of Parmigiani Fleurier in 1996 in the Val de Travers village of Fleurier. The founding logic was restoration standards applied to new watches.
The foundation then assembled a complete industrial base around the brand. Vaucher Manufacture builds movements, Atokalpa makes escapement parts and gears, Elwin turns screws and micro components, Les Artisans Boîtiers produce cases, and Quadrance et Habillage make dials. Hermès validated the pole by buying 25 percent of Vaucher in 2006.
For two decades the brand's sales never matched its capabilities. That changed in 2021 when new chief executive Guido Terreni, formerly of Bulgari, launched the Tonda PF and rebuilt the catalog around quiet luxury.
Parmigiani can produce essentially an entire watch, from hairspring to dial, within its own group. Vaucher movements are trusted by outside houses including Hermès and Richard Mille, which says more than advertising could. Michel Parmigiani's restoration workshop still operates, feeding historical technique back into production.
The Tonda PF married an integrated bracelet to almost invisible branding, a knurled platinum bezel, and grained dials in muted tones. Complications followed the same discretion: the GMT Rattrapante shows a second time zone with a snap back gold hand, and the Minute Rattrapante applies split logic to minutes. The Hijri Perpetual Calendar, based on the Islamic lunar calendar, won official recognition at the GPHG and opened a distinctive cultural register.
Design across the house follows the golden ratio, a Michel Parmigiani conviction from his restoration years.

Parmigiani Fleurier is arguably the most complete manufacture that almost nobody knows, now finally matched with a coherent product in the Tonda PF. The buyer gets restoration grade craft, group made components throughout, and a discretion that flatters rather than shouts. Buy it as the connoisseur's integrated sports watch, and treat the anonymity as a feature rather than a flaw.
