Brothers Nick and Giles English founded Bremont in 2002, motivated by family tragedy: their father died in a 1995 vintage aircraft crash that Nick survived. The name comes from a French farmer, Antoine Bremont, who once let their father land a plane in his field. The first watches shipped in 2007 with an aviation identity and British branding.
The brand's signature partnership is with Martin-Baker, maker of ejection seats: MB series watches are tested on the ejection rig, and the red barreled MB1 is sold only to pilots who have actually ejected. Squadron and military project watches became a huge quiet business. In 2021 Bremont opened The Wing, a manufacturing center in Henley on Thames, and introduced the ENG300 series movements.
Investment led by Bill Ackman's fund arrived in 2023, followed by new management and a 2024 rebrand whose simplified logo and repositioning drew loud enthusiast backlash. The episode remains a live test of whether British aviation authenticity survives scaling.
Bremont pushed further into UK production than any volume brand in decades: case machining, movement assembly, and testing at Henley. The Trip-Tick three part case with hardened steel is a genuine construction signature. Chronometer certification and shock testing anchor the tool watch claims.

Bremont earned a real place in modern watchmaking through aviation authenticity and British manufacturing ambition, then spent some of that trust on an awkward reinvention. The MB line remains the honest heart of the brand and the best buy, ideally secondhand. Watch whether the new era keeps the ejection seat spirit or trades it for generic luxury.
