Archimede is the house brand of Ickler GmbH, a case manufacturer founded in Pforzheim in 1924 by Karl Ickler. For decades Ickler produced watch cases for other German and Swiss brands, building deep metalworking expertise in Germany's jewelry city. The family firm survived the war, the postwar rebuild, and the quartz crisis as a supplier.
In 2003 grandson Thomas Ickler launched Archimede to sell watches directly under the family name. The logic was simple: the company already made excellent cases, so it could offer complete watches at supplier prices. The Pilot line quickly became a reference point for affordable fliegers.
Almost no small brand makes its own cases; Archimede's are machined, finished, and tested in the family factory. That shows in details like crisp brushing, tight bezel fits, and optional bead blasted or bronze executions. Movements are proven ETA and Sellita workhorses, regulated in Pforzheim.
Direct sales keep prices between roughly 500 and 1,500 euros. The value per euro on the case alone embarrasses many Swiss brands at twice the price.

Archimede is the enthusiast's shortcut to German case making quality: supplier grade manufacturing sold directly at fair prices. The Pilot 39 and 42 are among the best value fliegers anywhere. Buy it for metal quality and restraint, and accept that nobody outside the hobby will recognize it.
